Members of the Order of Vit\u00e9z and guests gathered at the Heroes Memorial at the Hungarian Community Centre in Melbourne on a bright, sunny Saturday morning on November 26, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vit\u00e9z Lilla K\u00f6vesdy \u00c1mon, Lieutenant of the Victorian Branch opened the ceremony. She welcomed the Roman Catholic priest, Father Zsolt Kiss, the Hungarian Consul in Melbourne, Mih\u00e1ly Geiger and his wife Erika, the Order of Vit\u00e9z representative from New South Wales, S\u00e1ndor Vass and his wife Anna, and members and friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The short program outdoors commenced with S\u00e1ndor Vass remembering the not long departed Australian Staff Captain vit\u00e9z nemes Joseph Tass\u00e1nyi. He highlighted the importance of maintaining Hungarian cultural and religious values. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mih\u00e1ly Geiger, in his keynote address mentioned the relevance of retaining traditions and culture encapsulated in the words \u201cGod, Nation, Family\u201d. The Order of Vit\u00e9z, whether in the diaspora or in the homeland are faced with a heavy responsibility and much hard work leading to the promise of a bright future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

J\u00e1nos Bakos recited a beautiful poem called \u201cV\u00e9gs\u0151 magvet\u00e9s\u201d translated as \u201cThe Final Sowing of the Seed\u201c. The poet, Tibor Tollas dedicated the poem to his Australian friends whom he met on an Australian visit in 1973.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program continued with a minutes\u2019 silence for the Vit\u00e9z members who departed this life during the past year.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Father Kiss gave a blessing to the gathering. Wreaths were laid at the Heroes Memorial in remembrance of all Vit\u00e9z throughout Hungarian history who gave their lives for the freedom and liberty of the Hungarian nation. The formalities ended with the singing of the Hungarian national anthem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The afternoon proceeded with lunch at the Social Club. Vit\u00e9z Lilla K\u00f6vesdy \u00c1mon congratulated v S\u00e1ndor Fazakas on his forthcoming 104th<\/sup> birthday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vit\u00e9z S\u00e1ndor Fazakas junior entertained guests with two charming guitar solos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vit\u00e9z Istv\u00e1n Vil\u00e1gos, Victorian Seat Captain, regretfully could not attend the celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He sent the following message:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEven though absent, I respectfully send greetings to my fellow members of the Order and to the guests and last but not least to my friend S\u00e1ndor Fazakas, who at age 104 is the oldest Vit\u00e9z in the World and a truly shining example to all of us. My thanks to Lilla for organising the day and to J\u00e1nos for his readiness to help at all times.\u201d  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
