Organized by the Northeast Hungary region Seat Captaincy of the Order of Vit\u00e9z, a commemoration for the victims of dictatorship took place in Ny\u00edregyh\u00e1za on February 22, 2025. The event featured performances by Vit\u00e9z Tekla Laczk\u00f3 actress, who recited Tibor Kecsk\u00e9si Tollas’ poem “They Tinplated Every Window (Beb\u00e1dogoztak minden ablakot)”, and Vit\u00e9z S\u00e1ndor Varga actor, who performed R\u00f3bert R\u00e1csai’s “October Litany (Okt\u00f3beri Lit\u00e1nia)”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A speech was delivered by Vit\u00e9z Istv\u00e1n F\u00fcl\u00f6p, lieutenant of Szatm\u00e1r region, former deputy Isp\u00e1n of Szabolcs-Szatm\u00e1r-Bereg County, and retired head of the M\u00e1t\u00e9szalka District Office. In his speech, Vit\u00e9z Istv\u00e1n F\u00fcl\u00f6p emphasized:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We must do everything in our power to ensure that such atrocities never happen again. For those of us who lived under the rule of the red star, it is our moral duty to remember and to remind others. The consequences of dictatorship\u2014repression, persecution, and the injustices that came with it\u2014affected many of us. Millions worldwide fell victim to communist dictatorship. Among them, many from our own county suffered under the injustices of that era. In addition to the daily repression and persecution, more than 13,000 people were deported from our county alone. But the fact that we are here today to remember reinforces the message inscribed on the memorial: ‘The defeated triumph!'”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of the commemoration, wreaths were laid by the Order of Vit\u00e9z\u2019s Northeast Hungary region Seat Captaincy, the Partium Seat Captaincy, and the Hungarian Defence Forces, represented by reserve captain M\u00e1rk Bihari of the Vit\u00e9z Antal Vattai 2nd Territorial Defence Regiment, 5th Recruitment and Supplementary Office. Ny\u00edregyh\u00e1za and its surrounding towns\u2019 residents paid their respects with candles and flowers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
