Commemoration of Arad Martyrs in Törökszentmiklós

October 8, 2023

Author: Vitéz Lehel Székely lieutenant

On October 6, 2023, members of the Order of Vitéz – from Budapest to Debrecen, from Szeged to Székelyföld – and their friends met at Törökszentmiklós.

Local historian Zoltán Galsi presented the recently inaugurated statue of János Almásy II, and then in the hall of the building, the marble plaque of nearly a thousand of the heroic dead of Törökszentmiklós who fell in World War I. At the marble plaques, wreaths were laid by Vitéz Ferenc Hegedűs Staff Captain and Vitéz Lehel Székely Lieutenant on behalf of the Order of Vitéz.

We marched from the City Hall to the National Defense Memorial in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, for the event organized in memory of the 13 Martyrs of Arad. At the monument erected over the mass graves of the national defenders who fell in the 1848/49 revolution in the Törökszentmiklós area, Vitéz Attila Bánó Historicus Staff Captain gave an uplifting celebratory speech. In the framework of the wreath-laying ceremony, on behalf of the Order of Chivalry, Vitéz Ferenc Hegedűs Staff Captain, Vitéz Lehel Székely Lieutenant and Vitéz Zoltán Blaskó Lieutenant laid a wreath.

After the commemoration, we visited the Almásy Castle in Szenttamás, then the Almásy Castle in Kétpó, where we ended the day with dinner combined with a conversation.

Gratitude to all the members of the Order and their attendants who honored the event organized by the Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok and Békés County Lieutenancy of the Order of Vitéz with their participation. Special thanks to Attila Bánó Historicus Staff Captain for the celebratory speech.
