During the Second World War, Imre Reviczky saved nearly fifty thousand people, mostly Jewish forced laborers, from deportation. Under the rule of the Arrow Cross, he often risked his own life by circumventing inhumane orders. Later, however, the communist regime showed him no gratitude, even revoking his pension. He eventually died in 1957 under unworthy circumstances, and nearly seventy years later, this past weekend, he was posthumously knighted.
The event was excellently reported by Magyar Nemzet, and the article can be read at the following link.
