The Funeral of Vitéz Count László Károlyi de Nagykároly

November 2, 2026

Author: Vitéz Margit Kótai, Seat Captain of Duna-Csepel Region

On October 22, 2026, with heavy hearts, we stood beside the catafalque of Vitéz Count László Károlyi de Nagykároly on behalf of the Order of Vitéz, to bid our final farewell to our dear fellow member.

When a window closes and a leaf falls to the ground,
Some of us know that something has come to an end.
Yet dawn breaks forth in the radiance of God,
Revealing a new homeland along the pathway of the stars.

Vitéz Count László Károlyi de Nagykároly had been a respected member of the Order of Vitéz since 2016. He contributed far more to the Order than merely his name and title: he gave it his heart, his soul, and his deeds. He was a man whose noble spirit and selflessness set an example for us all. His willingness to help others knew no bounds, and whenever the Order needed him, he was always ready to serve.

We shall never forget 2019, when he generously provided a venue for the members of the Order to hold our Pest County assembly. Following Holy Mass, he made the magnificent, newly renovated ceremonial hall of Fót Palace available to us.

We all remember the exceptionally warm and heartfelt welcome we received there. Together with his beloved wife, and with the boundless elegance and hospitality for which they were renowned, he graciously hosted the members of our Order at a brief but all the more memorable reception. This gesture was an expression not merely of respect, but of genuine and profound fraternal fellowship. We also had the opportunity to visit the castle museum and, last but certainly not least, to congratulate Lacászló on his 88th birthday.

Now that his earthly journey has come to an end, we mourn not only an outstanding fellow member of our Order, but also a true friend and a noble role model. We shall cherish his memory and his unwavering readiness to help others forever, both in our hearts and in the history of the Order of Vitéz.
